About Cleradol

Worked through,
not around.

Cleradol skincare range in an editorial product shoot

The problem we started with

Melasma had no good answer.

It is chronic, most prevalent in Asian skin, and it comes back.

Facials, peels and laser act on pigment that has already surfaced. Hydroquinone and corticosteroids carry their own risks of thinning and rebound.

Most products lighten what is visible. Very few change how much is made.
1.5–33% Estimated prevalence of melasma.

The brief

What Cleradol had to do.

Before any formulation work began, four requirements were set.

Woman holding a Cleradol skincare product
01

Work at the source.

An active potent enough to slow melanin production, not just lift what has surfaced.

02

Stay gentle.

Daily use, no thinning, no rebound, no restricted actives.

03

Sit alongside treatments.

Compatible with facials, peels and laser, rather than competing with them.

04

Be documented.

Every safety claim tested by an independent laboratory, on record.

Everything in the range is measured against those four.

Her background is medicinal chemistry — designing peptides, small molecules, PROTACs and RNA therapeutics.

Her drug discovery experience spans Novartis, A*STAR EDDC and Cargene Therapeutics: work where a compound has to be potent and safe, and where neither is assumed without data.

Cleradol came out of applying that discipline to a skin concern cosmetic science had mostly worked around rather than through.

In her words

“Because it was the one people had given up on.”

Why start with melasma?

Because it was the one people had given up on. Patients would go through laser, see it come back, and be told to manage it. That is a formulation problem, not an inevitability.

What makes Phthalide different?

It acts on tyrosinase, the enzyme that starts melanin production, and it does so at very low concentration. High potency at a low dose is what lets the finished formula stay gentle.

What did you leave out, and why?

No hydroquinone, no retinoids, no corticosteroids. They work, but they come with thinning, irritation and rebound. A product meant for daily use over months cannot carry those.

How we work

Narrow by design.

01

Three products. One concern.

A range you can explain in a sentence is a range people use correctly.

02

Proof before claims.

Independent testing — SGS, BIO SYNERGY Laboratories and a full OECD panel — sits behind what we say.

03

Restraint in the formula.

Water-based, fragrance-free, no restricted actives. Gentleness is a design constraint, not a coincidence.
